Background: Having a father who represented Japan in the Innsbruck and Lake Placid Olympics for ice hockey, and a mother who coached Olympic-caliber figure skaters, I grew up on the ice from the day I could walk. I continued to play in Colorado where my mother taught at the Olympic training center, then moved back to Japan and competed on the national level throughout middle school. I returned to the U.S. for high school where I played prep school hockey in Boston with teammate Andrew Goldstein. I graduated from Middlebury College in 2006 after a lucrative and successful career in the Middlebury Intramural Ice Hockey League.

If I could eat anything it would be . . . Asian food.
If I could be anywhere right now it would be . . . on the beach.
When I step on the ice, I feel . . . liberated and exhilarated.
If a gay hockey player sat in front of me, I would . . . be completely surprised.
